Edmonton Flag Football Association Key elements of the game

  • 7 players on the field - all eligible receivers
  • Quarterback cannot run past line of scrimmage
  • Limited blocking on the line of scrimmage
  • Games are 80 plays in length, not timed
  • No kicking or field goals

Starting a team

  • 14 - 18 players is recommended - If you are short players the league can provide you with a list of individuals looking to play
  • Your team will need uniforms - Jerseys that can be tucked in - All players' equipment must meet leagues' regulations
  • Flags will be provided for new teams
  • Teams to provide one regulation football
  • Team must provide a team representative
  • At registration all teams must provide a roster of players and pay league dues
  • The league is structured to allow for competitive and recreational teams

When and where do we play?

  • Season runs from late May to October
  • Games are played Monday to Thursday until September after which games are played on weekends
  • One game per week - Often played on the same weeknight for the entire season
  • Currently our fields are located at 11525 - 23 Ave NW

What's expected

  • Players and teams are required to follow the rules and regulations governing the league and its game
  • Each team is required to provide referee assistants to cover the sidelines and line of scrimmage throughout the season
  • Teams are expected to be involved with league events and participate in meetings through their spokesperson

Just looking to play

  • The league is always looking for individuals to play - Many opportunities exist for individuals to join new and existing teams
  • Individual costs are dependant on the team you choose to play with - Each team within the league sets its own fees
  • Watch our website, as teams looking for players will often post messages for tryouts or give contact numbers
  • Contact a league representative and let them know you are looking to play

Structure of the league

  • The league executive is the comprise of elected individuals from within our association who volunteer their time to plan, prepare and provide Edmonton Flag Football Association programs
  • Association membership is automatic for anyone who plays on a flag football team
  • Executive consists of: president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and divisional directors - Elected yearly
  • Regular meetings are held throughout the season

League employment

  • The league has paid referee positions available
  • Referees will be trained and provided the equipment that is needed
  • Knowledge of football is preferred but not required
